Want to know more about dental implants?

Fed up with having gaps in your teeth? Regardless of your age, gaps in your smile can lead to you feeling under-confident; you may avoid social situations, or feel concerned about smiling for group photos. Of course, as far back as the ancient Egyptians, there have been solutions for missing teeth; dentures. A reliable method that is the golden standard in tooth restoration, dentures have been used to fill those pesky gaps in a smile, while also restoring the functionality of the mouth at the same time. However, many wearers of dentures worry about them moving unexpectedly or falling out which is not exactly the confidence boost that they had hoped for!

Am I suitable for oral implants?

Before we fit your dental implants in Herefordshire, our dentists will have to check that your overall oral health is good and that you have enough jawbone to attach the implants successfully.

This will require some X-Rays to be performed and will also require you to answer a lifestyle questionnaire, but most of the adults we see at Warrendale Dental are suitable for oral implants.

How long does it take to have them fitted?

Depending on how many you are having fitted, the actual fitting of the implants to your jaw may take a few hours.

However, once fitted, you will have to wait for up to 6 months for your jaw to grow around them. Once this is completed, prosthetics (false teeth) will be attached.

What are the options for the healing period- what will I chew with?

Our dentists will provide you with a custom-fitted bridge, a partial or full denture to chew with while your jaw recovers from the implant fitting. However, if you would prefer something a bit more permanent and immovable during this period, talk to our dentists about other options.

Do oral implants hurt?

Many patients worry that having oral implants fitted will cause excruciating discomfort.

However, while discomfort is a subjective experience, having implants fitted is most closely comparable to having a tooth extracted; it may feel kin to bruising and will be sore for a few days. The sensation should be controllable with over-the-counter painkillers.

If you are worried about the level of discomfort, contact our team.

What about aftercare?

To ensure that your implants last a long time, you will need to care for them as though they were your natural teeth; brushing and flossing twice a day is a must to ensure longevity!

You will also need to visit our team twice a year for check-ups.
