What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants are becoming an increasingly popular way for patients to replace missing teeth. At Warrendale Dental Care in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, dentist Dr Chris Brown has a special interest and a wealth of experience in implantology. Here, we look at why implants could be the perfect treatment for you.

What are dental implants?

dental implantsImplants are, in essence, replacement tooth roots for patients who have lost one or more of their natural teeth. They are small metal screws that are placed carefully in the jaw bone by your dentist. Here they integrate with the bone, and provide a firm base for replacement teeth such as bridges, dentures or crowns.

Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants are permanent and will last you many years with proper care.

Why should I replace missing teeth?

Replacing missing teeth is important for several reasons. The two most obvious ones are enabling you to enjoy a full, healthy diet, and having the confidence to smile in public. But dentists are keen to point out there are other good reasons to replace teeth, too. Did you know that any remaining teeth may move into gaps and become crooked, leading to further dental health problems?

Patients who have lost teeth may also suffer bone loss in the jaw, leading to a sagging appearance of the skin around the face. Dental implants integrate with the bone and help prevent this. At our Ross-on-Wye practice we have stabilised many patients’ dentures with dental implants, stopping bone loss and preventing dentures from becoming loose.

How does it work?

At Warrendale Dental Centre we treat patients from across Herefordshire. The first step is to come in to our Ross-on-Wye practice for an implant consultation.

Our experienced dentist will assess your suitability for dental implants. The implants are placed under local anaesthetic and left to integrate with the bone for a few months before your final, permanent new teeth are placed.

We welcome patients from across Herefordshire and beyond.
