The FAQs below provide some information about dentures, if you have any questions that are not answered here do not hesitate to contact us:

What is a denture?

A denture is an appliance that is worn to replace lost or missing teeth in order to enable you to enjoy a healthy diet and to smile with confidence.

A complete or full denture replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaws or both.

A partial denture fills the spaces created by lost or missing teeth and may be attached to your natural teeth with clasps to help reduce movement during function.

What are dentures made from?

The base or plate of a denture can be made from acrylic or metal. The teeth are usually made from acrylic and can be chosen to match your natural teeth.

Will the dentures make me look different?

Dentures can be made to closely resemble your natural teeth so that little change in appearance will be noticeable. Alternatively they can be built up to reduce wrinkles around the mouth or to show more or less tooth according to your wishes.

Will I be able to eat with dentures?

Eating will take a little practice. Start with soft foods cut into small pieces. Chew slowly on both sides of your mouth simultaneously to help prevent the denture from moving. As you become more used to your denture add other foods until you return to your usual diet.

Will dentures change how I speak?

Pronouncing certain words may require practice for example by reading out loud but most people adapt within a few days.

What will dentures feel like?

New dentures may feel awkward or even uncomfortable for a few weeks until you become accustomed to them. The denture may feel loose while the muscles of your cheeks and tongue learn to keep them in place. If the denture is making you sore you should return to the practice for adjustment.
