Crowns
A crown is an artificial restoration that fits over what remains of the tooth restoring both function and appearance. It is sometimes called a ‘cap’.
Crowns are an excellent way of restoring broken teeth or teeth that have been weakened by decay and have large fillings.

A crown may be used for a number of reasons including:
- A large filling in a tooth susceptible to fracture
- To improve the appearance of teeth with discoloured fillings
- Root filled teeth are more prone to fracture and can be strengthened by crowning
- They may be used to help retain or stabilise a denture
- Area between the teeth that trap food and cause discomfort can be reshaped and the space closed by building a tooth out with a crown
