Overcoming fear of dental implants

If you have been considering dental implants in Herefordshire for your missing tooth or teeth, the chances are you have also been considering the possible pain and details of the drastic sounding procedure involved. It’s fair to say that few people look forward to a session in the dentist’s chair, especially when it comes to dental implants, this is hardly a regular check-up, scale and polish experience after all. However, when it comes down to it, dental implants in Herefordshire really are the way forward to a brighter future for your teeth and a healthy smile for years to come.

Dental Implants in HerefordshireFortunately, here at Warrendale Dental in Herefordshire, dental implants are one of our favourite treatments. Our dentists are trained and experienced in handling fearful patients. We know that implants are the healthiest option for tooth replacement in most cases and therefore we want to help you if you are feeling afraid or unsure about going ahead with the procedure.

I’m scared of surgery, how can you help?

If you are a fearful patient, be assertive about your needs. Let us know that you need extra reassurance and that special care should be taken to ensure you are comfortable. This way you can help us to help you. We regularly encounter and successfully treat patients who have a fear of the dentist and understand that surgery can be daunting.

Reassurance

Despite how the details of a dental implant procedure sounds, it is in fact a minor procedure. Did you know that the procedure is similar to having a filling, but less painful? There are fewer nerve endings in the jaw than in the teeth so there are fewer receptors to feel pain.

Pain relief

We will always give you a local anaesthetic for dental implant procedures. If you are particularly afraid we can arrange for conscious sedation, either with a tablet or as an injection. This gives the feeling of calmness, relaxing the nervous system whilst you are still awake. You will be able to respond to questions, but you may not remember the treatment, and you will need someone to drive you home.
